Crossing Borders – Hand Embroidered Small Throw – Baby Blanket

This afghan is hand embroidered with an intricate pattern in a traditional style. This style of work is called huck embroidery, huck darning, or Swedish weaving. Four wide bands of embroidery fill the ends of the blanket, forming mandalas at the corners; eight smaller bands cross them to add structure to the design. The afghan above was on display at the San Francisco School Of Needlework Design, but since we make them to order, there’s no need to wait until it’s back from the exhibit.
